This photo I found while digging through some of our trips my wife and I have taken. I forgot that I took this one, but I think it fits pretty well with this week’s photo challenge. This rock, which is part of the Monument Rocks near Oakley, Kansas, seems to be trying to escape from the overall formation. I can only assume that it used to be attached at one point, but is now on its own. Moving just as fast as it can, trying to get out of there. But truly, I think it’s just a Rock in a Hard Place.

Every sunset is different. Bright light fades, giving way to deeper colors. Colors deepen into shadow, leaving us to focus on certain aspects of the setting. And each day is a new day. I love Kansas Sunsets.
Keyhole Sunset, Monument Rocks
On this one, I am having a tough time deciding which one I prefer. I think I have decided that Monument Rocks are stunning in BOTH color as well as Black & White. Either way, I really enjoyed the rays of the sun peeking around the rocks to greet the World. What do you think?

As I’m sure you know by now, I was completely impressed with this trip to Monument Rocks. They area series of Chalk Formations with lots of fossils throughout the soil. This gives them a very light appearance, and with the shadows and the sun, made for some interesting contrasts for the Black & White Photos. Just for size comparison, some of these are over 60 feet high. Hope you enjoy!
Monument Rocks B&W Panorama
My wife and I visited Monument Rocks just south of Oakley, Kansas this past weekend. Needless to say, the vistas were so stunning that I will not run out of pictures to post anytime soon. I took almost 600 photos between two places we visited. So I apologize now if I overburden you with future posts of the same thing. But let me tell you, it was BEAUTIFUL!!! So this photo I felt was perfect for this week’s photo challenge for two reasons. First, the sunset was AMAZING!!!! Secondly, without the sun, we would have no colors to enjoy. I hope you enjoy this picture even half as much as I enjoyed this entire trip.
